We fished the same local area again for the exotics. Water was 69.9*, clear, and blue. The skies very overcast but a nice warm day with almost no wind. Hit the high spot at about 12:30pm. The fish did not want to eat. We tried live bait, cut bait, X-Rap, live squid, and finally connected the first Dorado on the green and white surface iron. Unfortunately, this one came unbuttoned right as it came close to the boat. There were no bites for the next two hours. There were lots of Dorado and yellowtail on most of the paddies but they had locked jaws. Finally, they started to bite and we had 3/3 very large yellowtail (20-25#) on board from our first timers to yellowtail. It was fun watching the expression when the fight is over and the client just wants to sit down and rest a while.
The water is really starting to warm up nice. It’s pretty amazing when you can get Dorado on the kelp patties within 20-25 miles of Channel Islands Harbor. We still have some spots available for the second half of September if anyone is interested in taking advantage of some good fishing.
