LATE SEASON ROCKFISH TRIP 12/11/16

Today we had the pleasure of taking the “Fish On Customs” crew out for a full day freezer filler. If you don’t know these guys yet, you soon will. As some of the best rod component suppliers and builders around. They book these trips for field testing everything, before selling it to the public. If they don’t like it, they don’t sell it.

We left the dock at 5am. With overcast sky’s and a lumpy mixed swell, we headed towards the fishing grounds. Within an hour the seas had settled down, and the clouds began to dissipate. Before long the sun put on an impressive rise and began to warm the bitter cold winter morning air.

We arrived at the fishing grounds with hopes of filling the freezer before the rockfish closure. We spent the day picking off very nice quality vermillions (aka reds) with a nice mix of chuckleheads and other assorted rockfish thrown in for more color. The sun stuck with us throughout the morning making it a T-shirt fishing day in December.

By 2pm we were limited out, and we began our trip home. A few miles short of the marina we entered a very thick and cold fog bank. Within minutes everything was damp and cold. However the boys were warm and cozy down below in the heated salon to enjoy a cold beer and football game for the remainder of the ride home.
